Dr Sophia Franks is a clinical psychologist with over twenty-four years of experience working as a psychologist within both public and private sectors in the areas of child and adolescent, perinatal, and adult psychiatry. Dr Sophia Franks is a clinical psychologist with over twenty-four years of experience working as a psychologist within both public and private sectors in the areas of child and adolescent, perinatal, and adult psychiatry. She takes an empathic and research-based approach to providing psychological care, working closely with individuals and families to support their mental health, well-being and functioning. Dr Franks completed her PhD in the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. During this time, she was appointed to a senior psychology position and was awarded a Murdoch Institute grant for her research, which the International Association published for the Study of Pain.

Dr Franks has a special interest in parent-infant mental health, working as the Senior psychologist in the Psychiatry Department at Mercy Hospital for Women, working therapeutically with high-risk mothers and babies and providing assistance with attachment and intergenerational trauma and continuity of care for women antenatally and postnatally.

Dr Franks is an accredited supervisor with the Australian Psychological Society and is clinically endorsed with AHPRA. She has taught and supervised students at various universities in Melbourne and Queensland and supported clinicians throughout their professional careers in private practice. She also enjoys providing education and training psychologists and works seasonally as a Senior Teaching Fellow for postgraduate psychology students at Bond University.
